Growing up on a farm in Marshall Minnesota observing nature inspired me to become an artist. This led me to a career as a graphic designer working for South Dakota Public Broadcasting and South Dakota State University. While working full time I pursued a fine art career.

“Nature presents itself in many graphic and abstract shapes that can form picturesque compositions. To the observer of nature, these compositions can stir inner feelings such as delight and wonder. I challenge myself to capture these abstract shapes of nature with good art. I hope to create feelings the observer can relate to.”

I work in oils, acrylic and pencil using a representational style depicting western, historical, wildlife, landscapes, and a contemporary series called The Human Land ™. This series deals with the human spirit depicting man’s relationship to the land, wildlife and environments, by using the human form as part of the land and nature. I am also a founding member of ARTIST RIDE ™, an invitation-only event for contemporary western artists who meet once a year on the Shearer ranch near Wall, South Dakota. This event features historical reenactments as reference materials for use by artists. ARTIST RIDE ™ has been featured on television in the US and Europe and has been written up in the Smithsonian, Art of the West, Southwest Art, and many other magazines.

I attend art shows throughout the Midwest and have won best of shows and people’s choice awards. My artworks can be found in galleries and private collections across the Midwest and Europe.
