I have been carving birds for 30 years. Since that time I have competed and won many ribbons in major wildfowl carving competitions such as the Ward World Championship Wildfowl Carving Competition in Ocean City, Maryland, the Pacific Southwest Wildfowl Arts show in San Diego, CA, and the Pacific Flyway Decoy Association show in Sacramento, CA. In Montana I have competed and done well in the Montana Woodcarvers Association in Billings and the Western Montana Woodcarvers Show in Missoula. As a member of the Western Heritage Artist (WHA) I have won a First Place Carving ribbon and Artist Choice Award in 2016 and a First Place Sculpture ribbon in 2017. In 2019 I won first place with two of my carvings in the Western Art Rodeo Association (WARA) competition. I have done three shows at the Terakedis Fine Art Gallery in downtown Billings, and where my carvings have been displayed and sold for the past 18 months. Much of my work is in private collections throughout the United States.

My bird carvings are all original one-of-a-kind art sculptures. I carve the birds out of tupelo gum wood then create the feathers by using a wood burning tool. I also make the legs and feet as well as the habitat accompanying the carving.

My desire is not to create a perfect bird replica, but to capture and do justice to the bird’s true beauty, size, colors, and uniqueness. Secondly, I carve bird to bring people closer to nature and possibly instill in them an appreciation for birds, other wildlife, and their habitat. I want people to be amazed by the bird and not the carving. Finally, I carve birds because I love to and for no other reason.
